Montreal Impact have confirmed the signing of France international center-back Rod Fanni on a short-term deal.

The 36-year-old, who was a free agent after being released by Ligue 1 club Marseille, will join the Impact as a replacement for Zakaria Diallo -- who tore his Achilles tendon last week.

"Rod's addition to the group was needed to help fill the void in our defensive line after Zakaria's injury," Impact technical director Adam Braz told the club's official website.

"He is a consummate professional who showed a strong desire to join our club. The fact that he was out of contract as well as his experience at the highest level in Europe were contributing factors to his signing."

Fanni's contract runs through June 30, 2018, with an option for the remainder of the MLS season.
