Manchester United and Juventus in talks over Matteo Darmian transfer - sources

Manchester United are in talks with Juventus over the sale of Matteo Darmian but the clubs are yet to agree a fee, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Italian champions are keen to bring Darmian back to Serie A three years after he left Torino for Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho has said he wants to keep the 28-year-old in his squad. But after Darmian made just five Premier League starts last season, sources said the player is open to a move.

United would like to recoup as much of the £12.7 million they paid Torino in 2015, and sources said Juventus have not yet met their valuation.

United are in a strong position to dig their heels in over Darmian because they hold an option to extend his contract until 2020, meaning the Italy international effectively has two years left on his deal.

Juventus want Darmian to replace right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, who will leave the club on a free transfer this summer and has been heavily linked to a move to Arsenal.

United, meanwhile, are hopeful of bolstering their defensive options with Portugal under-21 full-back Diogo Dalot to add competition for regular right-back Antonio Valencia, who will turn 33 in August.

Sources said United are in negotiations with Porto for the 19-year-old and hope to conclude a deal in the next two weeks.
