Dean Henderson signs new Manchester United deal until 2020

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has signed a new deal that commits him to the Old Trafford club until 2020 ahead of a potential loan to a Championship club.

Henderson's existing deal would have expired later this month and United feared he could leave following an impressive loan spell in which he helped Shrewsbury Town reach last season's League One playoff final.

Following the signing, Henderson told MUTV: "I'm really delighted. Coming off the back of last season and playing games at Shrewsbury and having a good season there, to return to the biggest club in the world and put pen to paper again is a great achievement for me and my family. It's another dream come true.

"Obviously, there was a lot of interest after last season, when I've done well going out and playing but United are the biggest club in the world and have been my club since day one so, of course, they are always first in my mind."

The England Under-21 international was named in the PFA's League One Team of the Year and a number of clubs were reported to be keen to sign him as a free agent when his contract expired.

Henderson will be behind David De Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira, but United have high hopes for his future.

They feel he would be best served by going out on loan to a Championship club next term to continue his development.
