Manchester City target Jorginho omitted from Napoli squad, transfer nears

Jorginho's transfer to Manchester City has moved a step closer after he was omitted from the list of players new Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti has summoned for the start of preseason training on July 10.

The midfielder, 26, has been linked with a €55 million move to the Premier League champions this summer, and the Serie A club's president Aurelio De Laurentiis said last month a transfer was looking likely despite rejecting a bid.

The player's omission from a 23-man party of players Ancelotti has called up for a preseason training camp in Dimaro is a further indication that his future no longer lies in Naples.

The list, published on the club's official website, does not include players who have been involved in the World Cup, and who will commence training either during the camp, which lasts until July 30, or upon the squad's return to Naples.

However, since Italy did not qualify for the World Cup, Jorginho would have been expected to be part of the squad, which includes captain Marek Hamsik, who has also been linked with a summer transfer.

Jorginho has also been linked with Liverpool and Chelsea, but City are closest to matching Napoli's asking price.
