Minnesota United signs Colombian forward Angleo Rodriguez as DP

Minnesota United added a second Colombian designated player to their squad on Tuesday by signing forward Angelo Rodriguez.

The 29-year-old, who arrives from Deportes Tolima in his homeland, joins compatriot Darwin Quintero, who moved to the Loons in March as the first DP in club history.

"He is a big-time player," Minnesota coach Adrian Heath. "We have just added a difference-maker to our roster. He's a player who is physical, skilled and knows how to score. He holds up the ball well and is also able to turn and run at defenders.

"He causes stress on defenses by closing down and pressing. He has seen some of the best competition in Colombia and has stepped up in big moments. We are thrilled to bring another valuable addition to Minnesota."

Rodriguez will be played for a club outside of Colombia for the first time, after also appearing for Atletico Nacional, Independiente Medellin and Envigado.

He scored six goals in the 2018 Apertura season as Deportes Tolima won the title.
