Fulham sign Aleksandar Mitrovic to permanent move from Newcastle

Aleksandar Mitrovic will remain with Fulham in the Premier League this season after the newly promoted club sealed his permanent move from Newcastle on Monday.

Mitrovic, 23, scored 12 goals in 17 games last season after joining Fulham on loan on deadline day in January, helping the London club to promotion after navigating through the playoffs.

The transfer had been reported at between £20-22 million, though the clubs did not confirm the transfer fee, and Mitrovic said he was thrilled to stay with Fulham.

"I'm happy to the moon and back," said Mitrovic, who scored for Serbia at the World Cup earlier this summer. "I'm very glad and happy and proud to finally be here and officially become a Fulham player. I have love for the fans. They're amazing fans and I have a really good connection with them.

"This is a big club and last year we made history. We did big things and I want to continue this. We want to keep making big things, and with all the fans behind us I think we can go far."

Newcastle will likely make a profit on the £14.5 million they paid Anderlecht for his services in July 2015. He scored 17 times in 72 games for the Magpies.

After breaking out with Partizan Belgrade in his native Serbia, Mitrovic scored 16 goals from Anderlecht in his debut campaign in Belgium before leading the league with 20 goals in the 2014-15 season.

"I'm delighted to announce that Aleksandar Mitrovic is back where he belongs at Fulham Football Club! We have reached an agreement to bring Mitro home," Fulham director Tony Khan said.

"He was a hero in our run to promotion, and from the moment he arrived at Motspur and began working with us, we've always wanted Mitro on a permanent; I told him that after the final at Wembley, and I'm thrilled to make it official today."
