Brighton and Hove Albion signed right-back Martin Montoya from Valencia on a four-year contract before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

Montoya, 27, a former Barcelona and Inter Milan defender, made more than 50 appearances for Valencia over the past two seasons.

"Martin's pedigree is excellent, and I'm delighted we have been able to add a player of his standing to our squad. There is no doubt he will improve our options in the right back position," manager Chris Houghton said.

"He has a wealth of experience, at 27 years old he is a very good age, and I'm now looking forward to working with him."

Fulham were also linked to signing Montoya, but club director Tony Khan wrote on Twitter on Thursday that he was no longer interested after deciding to go after other players.

Montoya is Brighton's 10th signing of a busy transfer window, including most notably winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh from AZ alkmaar, midfielder Yves Bissouma from Lille and left-back Bernardo from RB Leipzig.
