Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho earns new long-term contract

Jadon Sancho has committed his future to Borussia Dortmund, signing a new contract with the Bundesliga leaders until 2022.

"Jadon Sancho is one of the most exciting players in Europe. By extending the contract, we provide for his very, very positive development," sporting director Michael Zorc said.

Sancho, 18, joined Dortmund from Manchester City in August 2017 and took the No. 7 shirt vacated by Ousmane Dembele when he left for Barcelona in a deal worth more than €100 million.

"I am delighted that I decided to make the move to Dortmund just over a year ago because it all proved right," Sancho said.

"This city lives football like not many others, and young players win minutes at BVB. It's the perfect environment for my development.

"I am overall happy and pleased and proud to be part of this team. Something big is developing here."

Sancho's excellent form this season, which has seen him set up five goals and score one in only 120 minutes of football, led Zorc to compare the English winger to Dembele.

Sancho was part of the England Under-17 side that won the Under-17 World Cup last year.
