Blackburn's Jordan Rhodes 'unhappy' after Middlesbrough bid rejected

Jordan Rhodes has revealed his disappointment after Blackburn rejected a big-money offer from Middlesbrough for his services.

Blackburn rejected an offer in excess of £10 million for Scotland international Rhodes, who moved to Ewood Park from Huddersfield in 2012.

Middlesbrough, who had Patrick Bamford and Jelle Vossen on loan last season, will have a new-look attack in the coming campaign and expected to tie up a deal for Uruguay international Christian Stuani from Espanyol.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka has also targeted Rhodes, who has scored 74 goals in three seasons at Blackburn, as the man who can fire his side to promotion to the Premier League next season after missing out in the playoff final to Norwich last season.

"I have been advised by the club that they have rejected an offer from Middlesbrough for my services which was in excess of what Blackburn paid for me," Rhodes told ESPN FC.

"I am ambitious and have never hidden my desire to play at the highest level possible and that was one of the reasons why I left Huddersfield Town for Blackburn.

"When I left Huddersfield I felt the timing was right in the next stage of my career and, having seen Middlesbrough's performances last season in reaching the playoff final and their ambition this summer in terms of acquisitions, I would have liked to have been able to talk to them and I am unhappy at not being given that opportunity."

Boro have also brought in Stewart Downing from West Ham and loaned Tomas Kalas from Chelsea.
