Real Madrid to use Keylor Navas as David De Gea makeweight - reports

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas could be included in a deadline day move for Manchester United's David De Gea, according to reports.

De Gea, 24, has been linked with Real in recent months and reports in England and Spain claim the deal may be completed for €40 million before the Spanish window closes on Monday.

In order to finalise the transfer, Marca report that Real are ready to add 28-year-old Navas -- who joined Real on a six-year contract last summer from Levante and served as Iker Casillas's understudy -- in the deal.

The Spanish paper have revealed that Navas has postponed his trip to the United States, where he is due to join Costa Rica in training ahead of Saturday's international friendly against Brazil in New Jersey, until Tuesday.

Since Casillas's departure to FC Porto last month, Navas has started in nine games for Real coach Rafa Benitez and has yet to concede a goal in La Liga two games into the new season.

Navas saved a Ruben Castro penalty and had a solid performance in Saturday's 5-0 win over Real Betis to earn a standing ovation at the Bernabeu stadium.

Despite the reports of his exit, Navas is keen to remain at Real and also has the support of his teammates.

"Keylor is a great goalkeeper, he proved it on Saturday and he is going to help us a lot," Real striker Karim Benzema said on the club's official website. "He has all the confidence of his teammates."

Madrid coach Rafael Benitez was pleased with Navas's performance at the weekend but did not confirm that his goalkeeper would remain at the club.

When asked about the player's future, Benitez said on the club's official website: "I just work with the players I have, who are very good and I'm delighted."

De Gea is under contract with United for another season and has been left out of Louis van Gaal's squad -- with Sergio Romero installed as No. 1 -- since his last appearance on July 29 against Paris Saint-Germain.

He is set to arrive at Las Rozas on Tuesday evening to join the Spain team in training and Spain coach Vicente del Bosque is among those keen for the goalkeeper's future to be decided as soon as possible.

"He is active, training and ready to play," Del Bosque said. "I hope the situation is resolved from Sept. 1. If the situation drags on, then we could take another decision but at the end of August it's not significant."

De Gea was included in Spain's squad for Saturday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovakia in Oviedo and for the match against Macedonia in Skopje three days later.
