Victor Valdes says goodbye to Man United fans on social media

Victor Valdes appears to have confirmed he is leaving Manchester United by posting a message thanking fans for their support.

Valdes, who has been tipped to join Standard Liege on loan for the rest of the season, seemed to indicate his difficult spell at United is ending.

Above an image of the club's Carrington training ground, he wrote on both Twitter and Instagram: "Thank you all for your support during these months of hard work for me, I will never forget! See you soon!"

The 33-year-old goalkeeper has been denied a squad number at Old Trafford this season or the opportunity to train with the first team.

Manager Louis van Gaal omitted the Spain international from the United squad for their preseason tour of the United States while alleging he had refused to play for the club's reserves.

Valdes joined United in January 2015 after training with them for two-and-a-half months as he sought to regain fitness following a cruciate ligament injury.

He only made two first-team appearances, replacing the injured David De Gea against Arsenal in May and then starting in a 0-0 draw against Hull.

While he is expected to leave United on loan, it would in effect end his career with the club as the 18-month deal he signed in 2015 expires in the summer.
