Liverpool's Danny Ward will improve at Huddersfield - David Wagner

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward will return from his spell at Huddersfield Town an improved player, according to Terriers head coach David Wagner.

It was announced as Ward signed a new five-year contract with the Reds on Monday, that he will spend the 2016-17 season on loan at the Championship side.

The Welsh 'keeper impressed in his spell at Aberdeen last campaign and he was recalled by Liverpool in January, making his debut for the Premier League outfit in April away at Bournemouth.

The 23-year-old also featured at this summer's European Championships and played the entire 90 minutes of Wales' opening match with Slovakia.

Wagner, who is a good friend of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and managed Borussia Dortmund II, believes their newly-signed goalkeeper's development will continue at the John Smith's Stadium.

Wagner told Hudderfield's official website: "I've spoken before about using the loan market to bring special talent to the club and Danny is another great example of this.

"I would like to thank Liverpool FC for the help the staff at the club have given us in allowing Danny to join us.

"Danny is a goalkeeper that Liverpool FC rates very highly, which is why he has signed a new long-term contract at the club. He did very well out on loan last season and I believe we can help him take the next step in his career this season, so he will return to Liverpool a better goalkeeper.

"He is good with the ball at his feet, which is important in our style, but most importantly he is excellent at keeping the ball out of his net!"

He added: "Danny has had a very busy season that was extended by the part he played for Wales in Euro 2016, so he will be given some time off before he joins the squad when we depart for Austria towards the end of the month."

Ward could line up against his parent club as the two sides meet for a preseason friendly on July 20 in West Yorkshire.
