Fenerbahce unveil Martin Skrtel after transfer from Liverpool

Fenerbahce unveiled Martin Skrtel on Friday after signing the defender from Liverpool in a deal worth around £5 million.

Skrtel, 31, joined Liverpool in 2008 and made 320 appearances for the Reds but leaves after falling out of favour under Jurgen Klopp.

The Slovakian passed a medical with the Turkish Super Lig runners-up on Thursday ahead of the move.

Skrtel also thanked Liverpool fans for their support over the years in an Instagram post.

"I would like to say big thanks to all Liverpool fans around the world for the support they been showing to me and my family throughout eight and half years!" he wrote.

"It was a pleasure and privilege [to] represent such a massive club as Liverpool FC. The club, city and fans will be in our hearts forever. YNWA."

Skrtel was Liverpool's second-longest serving player behind Lucas Leiva and the Brazilian midfielder posted a goodbye message to his former teammate via Instagram that referenced the friendship between their sons Pedro and Matteo. He said:

"My friend Martin Skrtel, I wish you all the very best in your new club. We will miss you. Pedro Lucas will miss Matteo. Good luck."
