Schalke sign Yevhen Konoplyanka from Sevilla on loan for the season

Schalke have signed Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka on a one-year loan from Sevilla.

Konoplyanka, 26, passed his medical with the Bundesliga outfit on Tuesday before putting pen to paper on a deal that could become permanent at the end of the loan.

Schalke said in a statement on their official website: "Schalke have confirmed the signing of Sevilla attacker Yevhen Konoplyanka on a season-long loan. An option to recruit the Ukraine international on a permanent basis upon the completion of the temporary switch has been included in the deal. The 26-year-old will take the number 11 shirt.''

Head coach Markus Weinzierl said: "We're delighted to have signed a quick winger with an eye for goal. Yevhen Konoplyanka brings a lot of experience with him. He has frequently appeared on the international stage.''

Konoplyanka, a three-time Ukrainian Footballer of the Year with 56 caps for his country, joined Sevilla from Dnipro last summer and played 54 games for the Andalusian club, scoring nine goals and helping them retain their Europa League title.

His move from Sevilla could pave the way for former France winger Samir Nasri to join the La Liga club from Manchester City. The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan ahead of the transfer deadline.
