Paris Saint-Germain close to deal for Real Sociedad's Yuri Berchiche - agent

Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on the signing of Real Sociedad defender Yuri Berchiche, according to the player's representative.

The 27-year-old left-back, who was a reported target of Manchester City earlier this year, has attracted the attention of top European clubs after making 35 league starts to help the Basque outfit finish sixth in La Liga in the 2016-17 campaign.

Yuri is under contract with Real Sociedad until June 2020 and his agent is Pere Guardiola, brother of Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.

"A deal between Real Sociedad and Paris Saint-Germain could be reached in the coming day," Ander Larrea, one of Yuri's representatives at Media Base Sports, told AS.

"We are waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement. If that happens, Yuri will leave."

PSG will pay around €15 million, much less than the Spaniard's €40m release clause, according to Marca.

Marca reports that Yuri has already picked up his personal belongings at the club's Zubieta training ground and that his move to Paris is imminent.

Real Sociedad begin preseason training on Friday.

However, Larrea says his client has to agree personal terms with PSG.

"The player does not have an agreement with PSG. He has only spoken to them but nothing more," Larrea said.

PSG need to strengthen their left-back position following the retirement of former Brazilian player Maxwell in May.

Yuri, who had spells at Tottenham and Cheltenham Town earlier in his career, arrived at Real Sociedad in the summer of 2012 but spent the next two seasons on loan at Eibar.

He broke into Real Sociedad's first team in 2014 and has made 77 appearances for the La Liga outfit.
