Crew sign Morocco's Mokhtar as free agent

In a search for more offense, the Columbus Crew on Friday added Moroccan midfielder Youness Mokhtar, signing the free agent who last played for Stabaek in Norway.

Mokhtar, who will occupy an international roster slot, was signed with Targeted Allocation Money. The 27-year old has 47 career goals for clubs in the Netherlands, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, adding 39 assists.

He was a product of the youth system for PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and appeared at youth levels for national teams with Morocco and the Netherlands.

The Crew will enter Saturday's home game against Montreal at 5-14-3 (18 points) and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, 11 points off the playoff cutline.

The Crew are last in MLS with 19 goals, and third from the bottom with 18 assists as a team.
