Gorry eager to build confidence at Roar

Matildas midfielder Katrina Gorry is out to get back to her best in the W-League season.

The 27-year-old admits despite recovering from a major syndesmosis injury last Christmas to make Australia's World Cup squad, she's struggled for form since her playing return.

Gorry's minutes were limited in France and despite being Ante Milicic's squad for the recent friendlies against Chile, didn't get on the field in either match.

Back in Brisbane ahead of the Roar's W-League season opener against Melbourne Victory on November 21, Gorry is aiming for a big season.

"Really excited to get back playing for the Roar, get some consistent games," Gorry told AAP.

"That's probably been my downfall in the last year just not getting the consistency.

"With that I guess goes confidence as well. It'll be nice to get back on the park in the orange jersey, play freely under Jake (Goodship, coach) and get a couple of wins and see what happens next year."

The Roar have the bye for this weekend's opening round of the season but with several Matildas in their squad, Gorry says the extra week of preparation is worth the break.

"It definitely works in our favour. We had a couple of players with the young Matildas and a fair few of us with the Matildas and international players coming back in as well," she said.

"It'll be nice to sit on the couch and watch all the teams play this week and kind of see what we have in store for us next against Melbourne Victory."

Like Gorry, fellow Matilda Hayley Raso is optimistic of a big campaign for the Roar.

Raso barely featured in the W-League last summer as she recovered from a broken back suffered playing for American team Portland Thorns in October last year.

Back to full fitness, the 25-year-old is out to get the two-time W-League champions back to the top.

"I think I played two games last season so to be here with the team, training, getting a good pre-season under my belt leading into the season I think it's really helpful for me," Raso said.
