The original Scottish Cup trophy is so old that the winners only handle a replica each year, and an accident on Friday showed why that's such a good idea. The replica was present at an event hosted by finalists Inverness when a photographer accidentally knocked it over. A figurine of a footballer on top of the lid was knocked off and broken. The Scottish Football Association have little more than a week to repair the cup before the final between Inverness and Falkirk on May 30. Inverness cancelled an event for the replica cup to be on display on Saturday, and they were also eager to shift the blame, writing on Twitter: It would have been a tragedy had the same fate befallen the original Scottish Cup trophy, which at 142 years is the oldest surviving football trophy in the world.
