Barnet striker Matt Stevens target of Man United, Man City - sources

Manchester United and Manchester City are keeping tabs on Barnet striker Matt Stevens, sources have told ESPN FC.

Stevens has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs following his goal scoring exploits for Barnet last season, when they earned promotion to League Two.

The 17-year-old free-scoring forward scored more than 50 goals for Barnet's under-18 side last season and he became Barnet's youngest-ever player when he came off the bench in the Conference clash against Alfreton last September at 16.

Scouts from Premier League clubs have been flocking to Barnet to cast an eye over Stevens, who started his career at Reading.

Swansea and Crystal Palace have both seen bids for Stevens rejected by Barnet and the club are bracing themselves for further interest in the teenager.

Manchester United and Manchester City have been alerted to Stevens' potential and are monitoring his situation.

The two Premier League giants are looking to strengthen their youth set-ups with promising talents and they see Stevens as a prospect for the future.
