Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.
Here are today's top five emerging whispers for the summer. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.
Andrea Belotti -- Manchester United
Although they are interested in Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann, Manchester United are also eyeing prolific Torino striker Andrea Belotti. Jose Mourinho is actively pursuing attacking targets this summer following Zlatan Ibrahimovic's injury and has the resources to meet the 23-year-old's £84 million buy-out clause. Torino will be reluctant to sell Belotti, of course, after his 25-goal haul in Serie A this season, but United may attempt to sweeten the deal by using full-back Matteo Darmian (a former Torino player who is uncertain over his Old Trafford future) as a makeweight.
Alexandre Lacazette -- Arsenal
Alexandre Lacazette is a chief transfer target for Arsenal this summer. The 25-year-old is one of European football's hottest properties after a stellar campaign with Lyon in which he has scored 31 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions. The Gunners are likely to be just one of a host of clubs chasing Lacazette's signature, with Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan also said to be keen on him. However, the North London club will feel they can edge out their competition with their financial superiority, especially if they recoup a sizeable fee for Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to leave the Emirates this summer.
Joel Campbell -- Brighton & Hove Albion
Arsenal striker Joel Campbell has been heavily linked with a move to newly promoted Brighton after his current loan club Sporting Lisbon turned down a permanent move. The Costa Rica international has failed to make an impression in the Portuguese capital and is now expected to return to Arsenal. However, following a string of relatively fruitless loan spells, the Gunners may feel it is time to cash in on the 24-year-old and the Premier League new boys could be the ideal environment in which to revitalise his career.
Marco Verratti -- Barcelona
According to reports in Spain, Barcelona have won the race to sign highly rated Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti. The Italy international is also a target for Real Madrid but is apparently keen to link up with Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou. Verratti's performances for PSG since joining them from Pescara in 2012 have established him as one of the most efficient central midfielders in Europe and, having won four Ligue 1 titles with the Parisian giants may be keen on embarking on a new challenge. Contracted at the Parc des Princes until 2012, it may take an enormous bid to land him, but he would be an exceptional candidate to lead the Blaugrana's midfield in the post-Luis Enrique era.
Arda Turan -- Arsenal
Arsenal have been linked with a £25m move for Barcelona playmaker Arda Turan. The Turkey international has not been a regular starter under Luis Enrique since signing from Atletico Madrid in 2015 (although he didn't make his first appearance until January 2016 because of the club's transfer ban). A hard-working attacking midfielder blessed with creative craft and ingenuity, the 30-year-old may be easily viewed as a natural replacement for Mesut Ozil, should the German Arsenal in the summer, and would certainly fit with the club's long-standing philosophy of quick passing and moving football.
