Arsenal and Chelsea battle to sign Exeter teenager Ethan Ampadu

Arsenal and Chelsea are in a battle to sign highly-rated Exeter City teenager Ethan Ampadu, sources close to the League Two club have told ESPN FC.

Ampadu, who broke into the Exeter side at the start of the season, is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the country.

The 16-year-old, who can play in central defence or defensive midfield, became Exeter's youngest ever player in August against Brentford in the EFL Cup at the age of 15.

The Wales under-19 international has gone on to make 10 first-team appearances for the Grecians.

Sources have told ESPN FC the Gunners and Chelsea are now in a fight for his signature.

Arsenal are hoping the fact that the teenager's father works for their academy will give them a major advantage.

Exeter are resigned to losing Ampadu when the transfer window reopens in January, but have yet to strike a deal with either Arsenal or Chelsea.
