Man United, Chelsea eye Rochdale prospect Luke Matheson - sources

Manchester United and Chelsea are lining up moves for teenage Rochdale defender Luke Matheson, sources close to the League One club have told ESPN FC.

Matheson has earned praise for his performances in Rochdale's youth side, with the 14-year-old having been included in the first-team matchday squad for the last two games.

Both United and Chelsea have sent scouts to watch Matheson in action and have made enquiries as they look to continue their polices of signing the best young talents in the country.

Rochdale are reluctant to lose Matheson but may find it hard to turn down the money on offer from a Premier League club.

The right-back is regarded as one of the club's most exciting prospects in recent years, and Rochdale boss Keith Hill has helped develop players including John Stones and Danny Drinkwater during his career.
