Wrexham come into this game on the back of superb Championship form, while Chelsea have their confidence back after a dominant 4-1 away against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Before that win against Villa, Chelsea had picked up only a point in their last two Premier League, having drawn 1-1 with Burnley at Stamford Bridge, before losing 2-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

Talking Points

Both teams have bigger priorities than FA Cup glory this season

Wrexham are chasing a fourth promotion in a row, Chelsea are chasing a top five finish in the Premier League, which is likely to guarantee UEFA Champions League football for them next season. In that sense, the FA Cup is a bit of a distraction at this point of the season for both teams.

Particularly in the context of what immediately follows this game, both Wrexham and Chelsea could end up resting a few important players for this one, if they can. Chelsea play their Champions League Round of 16 first leg against PSG in France on Wednesday night, while Wrexham have a massive home tie against fellow promotion-chasers Hull City coming up on Tuesday night.

Chelsea could pave their path to the Champions League quarterfinals, while Wrexham could take a giant stride towards the promotion playoffs, with the Championship now well and truly in its business end.

Of course, there's a romance and history associated with the FA Cup, but there's no arguing that both these teams' priorities lie elsewhere, even if this is the most high-profile home game that Wrexham have had in the last couple of decades.

Chelsea cannot afford to underestimate Wrexham

Wrexham have some seriously good players in their ranks, so this will not be a case of turn up and roll them over, as it sometimes can be for a Premier League team against lower-league opposition. Chelsea will have to be at their best against Wrexham, but they do have recent experience against an opponent of a similar level.

In their fourth round tie away at Hull City, Chelsea were excellent in their 4-0 win, with Pedro Neto scoring a hat-trick, in addition to a goal from Estevao. It's important in such FA Cup ties to quieten the crowd early, and control the pace of the game to play it at the speed you want to. Chelsea will have to do that early on in this tie, and not turn it into a scrap, which will suit Wrexham.

Wrexham's recent form is excellent

Since Boxing Day, Wrexham have only lost two out of the 15 games that they have played -- against Norwich City and Millwall in the Championship. They've won four of their last five games as well, and that is a run of form that has the club and their fans dreaming of Premier League football next season. Wrexham are sixth in the Championship, four points clear of Southampton in seventh.

Parkinson was particularly impressed against Charlton last weekend, when Wrexham weren't at their best, but managed to fight and grind out a 1-0 win, thanks Oliver Rathbone's goal in the first, where Arthur Okonkwo made a superb save for Wrexham towards the end of the game. They've beaten some good teams in the Championship recently, including Ipswich Town twice, both in the last round of the FA Cup, and then in the Championship a week later.

Opportunity for Palmer to regain more sharpness

While Rosenior contemplates changes for this game, he has to get the balance between fatigue and sharpness right. There aren't concerns over the form of players like Moisés Caicedo and João Pedro but they might be in need of a rest in this busy period of the season. However, Cole Palmer is at a stage of his season where he could only benefit from more minutes on the pitch.

Palmer scored in Chelsea's superb 4-1 away win against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday night, but was poor against Arsenal last Sunday. He struggled to have an impact on that game, as he was physically overpowered by Declan Rice for large parts of it.

What do the numbers say?

  • In the past, Wrexham have won two out of their nine games against Chelsea, having lost four, and drawn three.

  • These two teams haven't met in a competitive game since February 1982, when Wrexham beat Chelsea 1-0.

  • Wrexham have made it through to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1996-97.

  • If Pedro Neto scores in this tie, he will become the first Chelsea player to score in the third, fourth and fifth rounds in a season since Pedro in 2016-17.
