Nicholas Musonye, the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) secretary general, has applauded Sudan for reaching the semi final of the African Nations Championship in Morocco, and believes that their progress to the final four demonstrates the good work that's being done in the region.

"This clearly shows that we have strong players and Leagues in the region and Sudan is clearly putting this message forward," he told KweséESPN. "My congratulations to the Sudan national team for reaching the semi finals of CHAN in Morocco.

"As a region, we congratulate our member Sudan for raising the profile of our zone," he added. "We had three teams in the campaign and Sudan have risen to the occasion to reach where they are.

"We congratulate them and wish them a flawless campaign all all the way to the final."

The Sudan team, led by Croatian Zdravko Logarusic, downed Zambia 1-0 in their quarter final on Saturday to set up a semi-final showdown with Nigeria in Marrakech.

The Falcons of Jediane started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Guinea in Group A before defeating Mauritania 1-0 to advance ahead of a goalless draw with hosts Morocco.

While CECAFA's two other CHAN representatives - Rwanda and Uganda - failed to escape the group, the former gave a good account of themselves as they beat Equatorial Guinea, held Nigeria 0-0 and were only defeated in stoppage time by Libya.

"We shall continue to provide different platforms like the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, Kagame Club Championships, CECAFA U-20 and the CECAFA Women's Championships for our member nations to capitalise on and improve so that they can compete better with teams from the other regions in Africa and around the world," Musonye concluded.

Sudan and Nigeria go head to head in Marrakech on Wednesday, while Morocco face Libya in the earlier kick off in Casablanca.
