Jan Vertonghen believes Tottenham will face a very different Borussia Dortmund side to the one they beat twice last season when they take on the Germans in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Spurs, who lost 5-1 on aggregate to Dortmund at the same stage of the Europa League in March 2016, did better against them last term, triumphing 3-1 at home and 2-1 away in the Champions League group stage.
But Vertonghen is expecting a tougher test when the north Londoners meet Lucien Favre's side, who are leading the Bundesliga by nine points, in February.
"They are doing very well -- top of the league in Germany -- and I think we'll face a different team from the one from the last couple of years," said Vertonghen. "We beat them twice last year and hopefully we can beat them again.
"Those games away at Real Madrid and Dortmund last season gave us the confidence that we can beat every team.
"I think it helped us to go through this year after we were beaten by Inter [Milan] as we kept believing. We went to Barcelona for a result and we got it at the end so we believe we can beat the best teams in the world. In my opinion, we've got one of the best teams in the world and we can beat them.
"Dortmund play like an English team with lots of passion, good football and pace up front, great technique and pace on the wings and in midfield -- they are just a very complete team.
"They are keeping lots of clean sheets and scoring lots of goals this season -- they are one of the more entertaining sides to watch, so it will be a good game."
Vertonghen knows Dortmund's Axel Witsel well from the Belgium squad.
"It's good to see him playing in one of the big European leagues as he's been around for a bit," said the Spurs defender. "He's a great player and he's doing very well but it will be funny to see him on the other side."
Tottenham's Harry Winks is also familiar with one of Dortmund's players -- 18-year-old Jadon Sancho, who left Manchester City for Germany in August 2017 and made his England debut in October this year.
"They have been doing really well in the league this year," said Winks. "I've been speaking to Jadon Sancho and he's been telling me what kind of side they are and how well they're doing.
"It's a good opportunity for us to progress. It's the Champions League and if you want to win it, you have to beat the best teams.
"We played them last season. They were a top side and I remember the atmosphere out there was something I'd never really experienced. They have that high stadium and it was pretty special. To come out of there with a win was excellent and something we were all proud of."
