President of Turkish club Trabzonspor locks referee in stadium - report

A referee and his assistants were locked in a stadium for several hours after failing to give a penalty in a match between Turkish clubs Trabzonspor and Gaziantepspor on Thursday.

According to the BBC, referee Cagatay Sahan and his assistants were detained inside Trabzonspor stadium on orders from club president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu in response to his decision to not award the spot kick in the 2-2 draw.

With a swarm of angry fans congregating outside the facility following the non-call, only a call from Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan persuaded the director to release the officiating team.

The Turkish Federation has begun investigating the incident.
