United States to host Bosnia and Herzegovina in January friendly

The retooling United States men's national team will open its 2018 schedule with a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Jan. 28 at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The match, announced on Monday, will follow the annual January training camp the Americans have held since 2004. The squad figures to be drawn mostly from players in Major League Soccer.

The two nations have only met once before, a 4-3 U.S. win in 2013, when Jozy Altidore scored a hat trick and John Brooks and Bobby Wood made their debuts.

The U.S. failed to qualify for next year's World Cup, ending a streak of seven straight appearances at the top event dating back to 1990.

Bruce Arena stepped down as coach after the Americans were eliminated with a 2-1 loss last month at Trinidad and Tobago.

His top assistant, Dave Sarachan, is coaching the team for Tuesday's friendly at Portugal. No long-term successor has been chosen.
