United States attacker Aron Johannsson has joined Swedish first division side Hammarby on a three-year deal.
The 28-year-old attacker had been out of contract since July 1 after his four-year deal with Bundesliga club Werder Bremen expired.
"I want to work hard to be match ready as soon as possible, and I hope to soon be able to help my team mates on the pitch and contribute goals," Johannsson said on the club's official homepage.
After an impressive two-year stint at Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, Johannsson's four years at Werder Bremen were overshadowed by several injuries which limited his playing time to just 28 league appearances. He scored four Bundesliga goals.
Johannsson, born in the U.S. to Icelandic parents, was part of the United States squad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but has not appeared for national duty since 2015.
"Aron is a versatile attacking player who can score a lot of goals," Hammarby sporting director Jesper Jansson said. "He had a few problems with injuries, but he is healthy now."
Half-way through the season, Hammarby are currently seventh in Allsvenskan, Sweden's top flight.
