The United States and Mexico will meet in a friendly at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., just two months after El Tri defeated the Americans in the 2019 Gold Cup final, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced on Monday.
The match, set for Sept. 6, will mark the 70th time the two sides have met, with Mexico having a 35-19-15 record against the U.S. The U.S. has had improved success since the turn of the century, going 14-7-6 against their rivals.

The most recent friendly meeting between the two teams came last September in Nashville, with the U.S. prevailing 1-0 on Tyler Adams' first international goal. Mexico took home the far bigger prize earlier this month, however, with Jonathan dos Santos' tally enabling Tata Martino's side to win the Gold Cup for a record eighth time.
The upcoming friendly falls inside a FIFA international window, giving the respective managers -- Gregg Berhalter of the U.S. and Martino of Mexico -- increased authority to call in their preferred group of players.
The U.S. is also planning to schedule a second friendly during the latter part of the window.
Both sides will be using the September friendly as preparation for games in the CONCACAF Nations League set to take place later this year. The U.S have been grouped with Canada and Cuba while El Tri are set to face Panama and Bermuda.
