Fans protest at struggling Pescara's Christmas party after Crotone defeat

Angry Pescara fans jeered players and kicked out at their cars they arrived for their Christmas party on Monday night.

Pescara, beaten 2-1 at Crotone at the weekend, are second bottom of Serie A with just one win from their first 16 games and fans held up a banner that read: "You should be ashamed."

Some fans spat at the players' cars and kicking out as the vehicles passed, with flares also lit before police arrived to disperse the protesters.

"Football is not war, it's a game," Pescara president Daniele Sebastiani told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"You don't just postpone a dinner because you have lost a game, even if we lost it badly at Crotone. The lads are giving it everything they have got, and that's how things should be.

"I've not spoken to the fans outside, but I did hear what some of them had to say. I hope their protest does not get out of hand because we need them."

Fans have called for the dismissal of coach Massimo Oddo, but Sebastiani backed him and said: "The coach is staying put. We need experience and the coach remains the head of our project.

"We picked him and we will continue to put our faith in him."

Pescara's Simone Pepe has been ruled out for the rest of the calendar year with a torn calf muscle suffered in the Crotone defeat, while Cristiano Biraghi sprained his ankle in training.

Both will miss the games against Bologna and at bottom-placed Palermo.
