South Korea open Cup of Nations with 5-0 win over Argentina

South Korea opened the Cup of Nations football tournament with an impressive 5-0 thrashing of Argentina.

They beat the Albicelestes on Thursday, and look set to provide Australia's toughest opposition in the four-nation friendly women's football tournament.

Mira Moon, Hwayeon Son and Sodam Lee scored before Soyun Ji netted a brace on a picture perfect afternoon at Sydney's Leichhardt Oval.

The world No. 14, Korea controlled possession and took an early lead when Moon stepped inside and thrashed home off the bottom of the crossbar.

Argentina, boasting impressive forward Florencia Jaimes up front, held their own through to half-time and had a chance to level when Mariana Larroquette's shot was deflected narrowly wide.

From that point, the South Americans fell apart, conceding four times in 20 minutes.

Son beat the offside trap and rounded star-jumping goalkeeper Vanna Correa before passing into an open goal.

Lee doubled her tally within a matter of minutes, scoring the 50th and 51st goals of her international career.

Australia, who play New Zealand on Thursday night, will face South Korea in Brisbane on Sunday, before finishing their Cup of Nations in Melbourne against Argentina.
