The Los Angeles Kings have signed 24-year-old forward Kyle Clifford to a five-year contract extension, according to the team's website.
The contract will pay Clifford $8 million, or an average of $1.6 million per season, a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.
Clifford, a former second-round pick and member of both the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup championship teams, has three goals, 10 points and a team-leading 66 penalty minutes for the Kings this season.
Kings general manager Dean Lombardi has been busy in the days leading up to the trade deadline, focusing first on locking up his own players. Clifford's extension follows Tuesday's news about a new three-year deal for Jordan Nolan that will pay him $950,000 per season.
