Smart leads North Texas to 86-83 win in OT over San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- Roosevelt Smart scored a career-high 31 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime, to lift North Texas to an 86-83 win over San Diego on Saturday night.

Smart sank seven 3-pointers, also a career best, and finished 11 for 22 from the field. Ryan Woolridge added 20 points and A.J. Lawson had 14 for North Texas (7-5), which extended its win streak to three games.

In the extra period, North Texas opened with a pair of free throws from Woolridge to go up 79-77 before San Diego tied it again with a bucket from Isaiah Wright and then Smart put the Mean Green on top for good with his final 3-pointer of the game.

San Diego (8-3) responded with a pair of free throws from Isaiah Pineiro to make it 81-80, but Smart nailed a jumper at the other end to stretch the advantage back to three and North Texas held on from there. San Diego's Yauhen Massalski missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Tyler Williams's 18 points led five Toreros in double figures. San Diego trailed most of the game but stayed close, erasing a five-point deficit in the final 28 seconds of regulation to tie it 77-all on a 3-pointer from Olin Carter III.
