Smith leads Longwood past Gardner-Webb 84-81 in OT win

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- JaShaun Smith tied his career high with 20 points and blocked a shot at the end of overtime as Longwood edged Gardner-Webb 84-81 on Saturday.

Juan Munoz had 17 points and six assists for Longwood (8-15, 3-7 Big South Conference). Shabooty Phillips added 11 points. Leslie Nkereuwem had 10 points.

DeShaun Wade's 3-pointer with 1:36 left gave Longwood the lead at 80-77. The Lancers extended the lead to six before Nate Johnson cut it to two on a four-point play with 20 seconds remaining. But Gardner-Webb's Jose Perez was called for an offensive foul on a drive and Jordan Cintron made 1 of 2 free throws for Longwood with 6.9 to go for a three-point lead. Perez had a final 3-point try partially blocked by Smith.

Perez hit a 3-pointer with 14.7 seconds remaining in regulation and send the game into overtime tied at 68.

Ludovic Dufeal had 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Runnin' Bulldogs (8-13, 4-5). Perez added 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Justin Jenkins had 13 points.

Longwood plays Charleston Southern at home on Thursday. Gardner-Webb takes on Presbyterian on the road on Thursday.
