Ewing, Armstrong lead Texas Southern past Alabama A&M 82-73
NORMAL, Ala. -- Eden Ewing scored 18 points and Tyrik Armstrong scored the game's final seven points as Texas Southern defeated Alabama A&M 82-73 on Saturday night.
Texas Southern had trouble putting away Alabama A&M and led only 75-73 with 1:28 to go before Armstrong hit a 3-pointer and four consecutive free throws to finish the game. The Tigers (10-11, 7-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) move into sole possession of first place in the conference and lead Prairie View A&M (6-2) by a full game after the Panthers lost to Alabama State 52-49.
Armstrong scored 15 points, Justin Hopkins added 17 and John Jones had 14 points for Texas Southern, which has won six in a row.
Evan Wiley scored a career-high 22 points and had nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (5-14, 2-6), who have lost five straight. Garrett Hicks added 16 points, Cameron Alford had 14 points and Cameron Tucker had 10 assists.
