Paulicap lifts Manhattan by Fairfield 61-43 in MAAC tourney

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Pauly Paulicap tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds to carry Manhattan to a 61-43 win over Fairfield in the opening game of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

Manhattan (13-17) advances to face top-seeded Siena in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Samir Stewart had 11 points and six assists for Manhattan. Christian Hinckson added 10 points and nine rebounds, and Nehemiah Mack had seven rebounds.

It was tied at 19 at the break before Manhattan went for 42 points in the second half. Paulicap scored 14 of his points after halftime, making all four of his field goals and six straight free throws. The Jaspers shot 52% in the second half.

Taj Benning had 10 points for the Stags (12-20). Landon Taliaferro, the Stags' leading scorer heading into the matchup at 12 points per game, was held to five points.
