Blue Hens fire basketball coach Monte Ross

The Delaware Blue Hens fired basketball coach Monte Ross on Friday.

The school issued a statement saying it was parting ways with Ross immediately. Acting athletic director Matthew Robinson thanked Ross for his service but said the university needs to start a new chapter with the men's basketball program.

The school said that once a new athletic director is named, it will undertake the search for a new coach.

Ross, 45, had a 132-184 overall record in his 10 seasons at Delaware. His job status was up in the air last offseason, but he wound up signing a three-year extension through the 2017-18 campaign.

The Blue Hens were 7-23 overall and 2-16 in the Colonial Athletic Association this season.

Ross took the program to the NCAA tournament in 2014 when the Blue Hens finished 25-10 and won the CAA title. Delaware also went to the College Basketball Invitational in 2012 under Ross.
