KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Tony Clark and Luis Polonia homered as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 Saturday night. Jeff Weaver (9-12) worked out of several jams to earn the victory. He gave up two runs and five hits, with four walks and four strikeouts. Kansas City closed to 4-3 in the ninth on Carlos Beltran's run-scoring infield single off Todd Jones with one out. But Jones got the final two outs for his 30th save as the Tigers won for the ninth time in their last 13 games. Polonia led off the game with his 10th homer of the season, a shot off Jeff Suppan (10-12) into the right-field bullpen. Clark, who homered twice on Friday night, hit a two-run shot in the third. Polonia led off with a single, went to second on a wild throw by third baseman Joe Randa, and was bunted to third by Deivi Cruz before Clark hit his 31st homer of the season. Suppan pitched seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks. Weaver stranded five runners in the fourth and fifth innings, and left the game in the sixth after giving up a run on three straight singles. But Nelson Cruz came in and retired the side without giving up another run, preserving Detroit's 3-2 lead. The Royals scored a run in the fifth when Weaver walked Scott Pose with the bases loaded. The got another run in the sixth on Randa's RBI single. Notes: Polonia also led off the game with a homer in Suppan's last start, on Sept. 27 in Detroit. ... The game was delayed 33 minutes by rain at the start of the fifth inning ... Clark needs one more RBI to become the first Detroit player with 100 in each of his first three seasons. ... Beltran has 304 total bases, breaking the Royals' rookie record of 301 by Kevin Seitzer in 1987.
