VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Carlos Perez, who struggled last year, was pounded for six runs and five hits in two innings Monday as the Los Angeles Dodgers were routed by the Baltimore Orioles 17-3.

After signing a $15.6 million, three-year contract, Perez went 2-10 with a 7.43 ERA last season.

``This is the first game,'' Perez said. ``I'm still working. It's no big deal.''

Los Angeles is 0-4 this spring. The Dodgers have been outscored 40-15 in four games, though manager Davey Johnson didn't seem too concerned, even with Perez.

``The other guys had problems too, so I'm not going to overreact,'' Johnson said. ``It's early in the spring.''

Baltimore broke open the game with two runs in the eighth and eight in the ninth. Dan Naulty was tagged for eight runs and five hits and three walks in one-third of an innings,

Starters Darren Dreifort and Pat Rapp turned in solid outings. The Orioles' Rapp retired all six men he faced in his spring debut, and Dreifort gave up one run and two hits in three innings.

B.J. Surhoff hit a two-run single in the fourth off Perez.

Ryan Minor, Eugene Kingsale and Calvin Pickering each had two hits for Baltimore, which is 3-1. The Dodgers didn't score until Hiram Bocachica's three-run homer off Radhames Dykhoff in the eighth.
