TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ With Ken Griffey gone, the Seattle Mariners are counting on Jay Buhner to become a home run threat again. He appears ready for the challenge.

Buhner hit his second home run of the spring Tuesday to lead the Mariners over the Anaheim Angels 5-3.

The Mariners are just glad to see Buhner in good health. He played just 159 games the past two seasons due to injures.

After three straight years of 40 or more homers, Buhner's totals dipped to 15 and 14 the last two seasons.

Anaheim starter Jarrod Washburn allowed three runs and five hits in 2 2-3 innings, while Seattle's Gil Meche gave up one run and five hits in two innings.

Mo Vaughn hit an RBI single in the first before Buhner's two-run homer put Seattle ahead in the second. Stan Javier made it 3-1 with an RBI grounder in the third following Mark Cameron's leadoff double.

Gary DiSarcina's two-run single off winner Ken Cloude tied the score in the fifth, but loser Scott Schoeneweis forced in the go-ahead run when he walked Dan Wilson with the bases loaded in the sixth.

Shane Monahan had an RBI double in the ninth off Mike Holtz.
