KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) _ Ken Caminiti is trying to put last season behind him.

Caminiti, hospitalized last spring with an acute sinus infection, went 2-for-3 with three RBIs Thursday as the Houston Astros defeated the New York Mets 9-3.

He missed 79 games while on the disabled list during the regular season with a strained right calf.

``It was one of the most frustrating years of my career,'' he said.

So far this spring Caminiti is batting .417 with five RBIs in five games.

Caminiti had a RBI double in the first inning and a two-run single in the second inning Thursday as the Astros built a 5-0 lead off Al Leiter, who allowed five runs _ two earned _ and five hits and three walks in two innings.

Jon Nunnally hit his third homer in two days for the Mets _ a solo shot off winner Chris Holt in the third inning. Nunnally is 5-for-5 with three homers and seven RBIs in his last two games.

Vance Wilson also homered for the Mets.

Lance Berkman and Scott Chapman hit solo homers for the Astros and Mitch Meluskey was 2-for-3 and drove in a run for the Astros, 6-1 this spring.

Country singer Garth Brooks went hitless in two at-bats, flying out to left field and taking a game-ending called third strike from Jay Powell. Brooks is 0-for-5 this spring.
