CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) _ After a rare win, the New York Yankees went back to their losing ways of this spring.

Ron Ducey's grand slam keyed a five-run fourth inning as the Phillies beat the Yankees 5-3 Thursday, dropping the two-time World Series champions to 1-7 this spring.

Ducey, who started in center field, was 2-for-3 with a walk to raise his average to .389 (7-for-18).

``This is when Ducey can pile up some at-bats and it can carry over into the season, but come April it'll be a little bit dry,'' Phillies manager Terry Francona said. ``He's smart enough to know how to use these at-bats.''

Yankees starter Orlando Hernandez, who missed a week this spring with a lower back injury, had a successful debut, limiting the Phillies to one hit and no runs in two innings.

Phillies starter Robert Person, projected to start the season third in the rotation, rebounded from a shaky first start by throwing three scoreless innings.

With only Tino Martinez and Scott Brosius missing from the Yankees' regular lineup, Person allowed only three runners _ a two-out double in the first to Paul O'Neill, a one-out single in the second to Jorge Posada and a one-out hit in the third to Chuck Knoblauch.

After the Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the fourth against winner Mark Brownson, the Phillies scored five in the bottom half, with Andy Dominique singling in a run before Ducey connected off loser Darrell Einertson.
