PHOENIX (AP) _ Terrence Long drove in the winning run and the Oakland Athletics defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-4 on Saturday for their fifth straight win.

Long, contending for a spot on the roster, is now hitting .500 (9-for-18) on the spring with 10 RBI.

``He's shown us he can swing the bat,'' said Oakland manager Art Howe. ``He's a dotcom right now. His stock is rising.''

Doug Jones pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the victory as the A's improved to a Cactus League best 7-1. Luis Vizcaino struck out the side in the ninth to record the save.

Felix Heredia took the loss after allowing three runs and two walks, while getting only one out.

Oakland starter Omar Olivares threw three hitless innings with four strikeouts. He faced the minimum nine batters, allowing one baserunner on a walk who was later erased on a double play.

Cubs starter Andrew Lorraine gave up two runs on four hits in three innings with a walk and strikeout.

Olmedo Saenz, Long and Adam Piatt drove in runs against Heredia in the decisive seventh.

Chicago had gone in front 4-3 with three runs in the top of the seventh. Chad Meyers hit a two-run double and Jose Molina followed with a run-scoring single.

The A's took a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Jason Giambi and a sacrifice fly by Saenz.

Tarrick Brock doubled with two outs in the sixth to give Chicago its first hit of the game, and also its first run, scoring Meyers, who had walked.

Oakland added a run in the sixth when Miguel Tejada singled home Ben Grieve.
