PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) _ Texas Rangers manager Johnny Oates was tempted to let Kenny Rogers go the distance Monday against Toronto.

Considering it was just Rogers' third outing of the spring, Oates cut him off at six innings.

The 35-year-old Rogers, who re-signed with Texas during the offseason after a four-year absence, allowed one run and two hits, striking out six in a 6-1 win over the Blue Jays 6-1.

Rogers was expected to throw five innings, but was still below his pitch count of 60 and went the extra inning. He threw 59 pitches.

``Some of the Blue Jays were swinging early in the count,'' he said. `I was just moving the ball around a lot today.''

Texas scored five runs in the sixth inning. Royce Clayton, who went 2-for-4, had a two-out, two-run single.

Ruben Mateo also went 2-for-4. Chad Curtis hit a solo homer for Texas.

Tim Crabtree threw two perfect innings of relief and Doug Davis retired the Blue Jays in order in the ninth.

Toronto starter Frank Castillo allowed one run and five hits in five innings.

Shannon Stewart had a solo home run for Toronto.

Notes: Rangers LF Rusty Greer was scheduled to visit foot specialist Dr. Charles Cook in Dallas Monday. Greer has been bothered by inflammation around his right ankle for much of spring training. ... Texas assigned RHP David Elder, RHP Jonathan Johnson, LHP Corey Lee, LHP Juan Moreno and IF Jason Grabowski to its minor league camp. Texas also sent non-roster invitees RHP R.A. Dickey, RHP Matt Miller, C Reed Secrist, C Luis Taveras, IF Carlos Pena and OF Pedro Valdes to the minor league camp. The Rangers have 42 players remaining in their major league camp.
