FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ Albert Belle hit his second homer of the spring and Pat Rapp solidified his spot in the starting rotation by pitching four innings of one-hit ball as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Minnesota Twins 3-2 Saturday.

Belle hit a solo home run off Sean Bergman in the second. A notoriously slow starter in the regular season, Belle went 2-for-3 to raise his batting average to .278. His eight RBIs are tied for the team lead.

After Belle homered, Harold Baines and Cal Ripken singled before Will Clark hit a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

With the score 2-all in the eighth, Eugene Kingsale and Jerry Hairston singled off Jack Cressend before Jesse Garcia drove in the tiebreaking run with a groundout.

Mike Timlin worked the ninth for his second save.

Rapp, signed as a free agent during the offseason, retired the first nine batters before Jacques Jones reached on a three-base error by Belle in right field. Rapp then got two outs before Matt LeCroy drew a walk and Midre Cummings hit an RBI double.

Rapp entered camp as the leading candidate for the fifth spot in the rotation, but an injury to Scott Erickson moved everyone up a slot. Rapp is now pushing for the No. 3 spot ahead of Jason Johnson, who has a 9.00 ERA.

``I don't know if (Rapp) is three or what,'' manager Mike Hargrove said. ``I don't how it will shake itself out, but it will.''

Rapp has allowed only two earned runs in nine innings. More importantly, he has thus far managed to avoid the control problems that have plagued him throughout his career.

``It seems like everything is going the way I want it to,'' he said. ``We've kind of got the rotation set, but anything can happen.''
