FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) _ Brad Fullmer was 0-for-1 with a walk in his first game with Toronto, and Chris Woodward hit a run-scoring double on Saturday as the Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 in a game shortened to five innings by rain.

Fullmer, who was the designated hitter, came to Toronto on Thursday in a three-way trade that sent David Segui to Texas and Lee Stevens from the Rangers to Montreal.

Loser Brian Rose, competing for a spot in Boston's rotation, allowed three runs _ two earned _ and four hits in three innings.

Winner Frank Castillo gave up two runs and four hits in 3 1-3 innings with five walks and one strikeout.

Toronto took a 2-0 lead in the first when Shannon Stewart doubled, Raul Mondesi hit an RBI single and first baseman Brian Daubach made a run-scoring error when he misplayed the throw following Fullmer's grounder.

Woodward hit his double in the second, but Jason Varitek's fourth-inning homer made it 3-1. Following a 1-hour, 9-minute rain delay, Wilton Veras hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

Rheal Cormier struck out the side in the fifth before Red Sox manager Jimy Williams told umpires he was concerned about the players' safety on the wet field.
