PHOENIX (AP) _ Olmedo Saenz hit a grand slam and David McCarty hit two home runs and drove in six runs as the Oakland Athletics, with six homers in all, beat the San Diego Padres 16-6 Monday.

Ramon Hernandez also hit two homers and drove in three runs for the A's, who have the best record in the majors this spring at 14-3.

Phil Nevin, playing for the first time since spraining an ankle on March 7, had hits in his first two at-bats for the Padres, who had won their previous five games.

Winner Terry Burrows pitched two innings of one-hit relief to record the victory. Burrows, a non-roster pitcher who last appeared in the majors with San Diego in 1997, struck out three and walked none.

Starter Tim Hudson gave up three runs on seven hits in four innings.

Padres starter Mike Bynum gave up two runs and four hits in three innings.

Saenz hit his grand slam off loser Dan Serafini during a nine-run sixth inning. McCarty broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run double in the inning. Hernandez, Jorge Valendia and Bo Porter also drove in runs.

Serafini faced seven batters, allowing six runs in his 1-3 innings. He has a 16.21 spring ERA in eight appearances, allowing 15 runs in 8 1-3 innings.

McCarty and Hernandez hit back-to-back home runs in the second. Hernandez added a home run in the fifth. Valendia homered in the eighth.

Ryan Klesko gave the Padres a 2-0 with a two-run double in the first. Gary Matthews, Jr. hit a run-scoring double in the fourth.

San Diego's Bret Boone and John Roskos hit consecutive homers in the eighth.
