VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Shawn Green went 3-for-4 and Darren Dreifort threw five shutout innings Tuesday as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets 5-2 for just their fifth win in 20 spring games.

Green doubled home a run in the second and hit an RBI single in the third. The Dodgers' Mark Grudzielanek went 2-for-4 and scored three runs, and Devon White added a towering leadoff homer in the fifth.

The game also marked a role reversal for the two infields.

The Dodgers, who tied for 12th in the National League in fielding last year, turned five double plays. The Mets' starting infield, which combined for just 27 errors in all of 1999, committed three.

The first error came when Eric Karros popped to second with runners on first and third and one out in the first inning. Edgardo Alfonzo tried to double up Green at first, but his throw went past Todd Zeile to bring home Grudzielanek with the game's first run.

Dreifort, who had control problems at times, walked Mets pitcher Bill Pulsipher twice, but gave up just four hits and benefited from the Dodgers' ability to turn double plays.

Pulsipher, competing with Glendon Rusch, Bobby M. Jones and Dennis Springer for the final spot in the Mets' rotation, gave up five runs and eight hits in five innings, but only three of the runs were earned.
