MESA, Ariz. (AP) _ Mike Cameron wants other teams to worry about him when he's on base. Maybe they should.

Cameron stole two bases Thursday and went 2-for-3 as the Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago Cubs 7-4. Carlos Hernandez and John Olerud each drove in two runs, and Hernandez stole another base.

``Running adds another aspect to the game,'' said Cameron, who's stolen three bases this spring. ``The game is sped up a lot, and maybe you throw the other team off a little. When you run, you put worry in people's minds.''

Seattle has had the rest of the Cactus League teams looking over their shoulders this spring. The Mariners have stolen 19 bases in 18 games, their most since 1992.

Mark McLemore and Charles Gipson are the biggest thieves with four stolen bases apiece. Brian Hunter has three.

``It's on the pitcher's mind a little more,'' Cameron said. ``When you have a guy on base and you know he can run a little bit, that's in your mind.''

Cameron started messing with Cubs starter Kyle Farnsworth's mind right away. Batting second, he was on base only a few minutes when he took off running. By the time the ball got to second base, he was wiping the dust off of his shoes.

In his second at-bat, he took a test run when Alex Rodriguez fouled off a ball. And while Rodriguez was going down swinging, Cameron was hustling for second again.

``If I'm hitting ahead of A-Rod, that's two runs instead of one the pitcher has to worry about,'' Cameron said.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Mariners. While spring training games don't count for anything _ bragging rights, maybe _ Cameron said winning is important regardless of what time of year it is.

``Some people don't worry about winning in spring too much, but you start getting in that mode. Last year, from spring training on, we felt we needed to win,'' said Cameron, who played for Cincinnati last year.

``If you start playing winning baseball, that carries over.''

Notes: The Cubs placed OF Glenallen Hill on the disabled list. ... Cubs RHP Greg McMichael asked for and received his release. The Cubs also outrighted RHP Steve Rain's contract to Iowa and returned OF Chris Hatcher to minor league camp. ... Seattle RHP Gil Meche did not throw Thursday because of tightness in his shoulder. He'll be reevaluated Friday.
