BOX SCORE
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) _ John Roskos is going to force the San Diego Padres to make some tough decisions. Fighting for a roster spot, Roskos tripled, doubled and scored two runs on Friday as the Padres beat the Anaheim Angels 8-4. The catcher-first baseman is hitting .607 with six doubles, one triple and four homers. ``This guy is relentless,'' manager Bruce Bochy said. ``We're getting close here to making some decisions, and in all fairness, he's done everything he needs to do to be on the club.'' With several players fighting for roster spots, Roskos isn't helping to make any decisions easier. Bochy had considered carrying just 10 pitchers to help make room, but probably will stick with 11 pitchers. Roskos tripled in the second inning scored on Bret Boone's double, then doubled in the third. He walked to load the bases in the three-run fifth, then Boone walked to force in a run and chase Angels starter Ken Hill. Ben Davis greeted reliever Shawn Boskie with a two-run single to make it 7-2. Tony Gwynn hit his first homer of the spring and went 3-for-3. His two-run homer off Hill in the third inning gave the Padres a 4-0 lead. He also added a pair of singles. Padres starter Sterling Hitchcock pitched six strong innings, allowing two runs and seven hits for the win. He was hit on the left instep by a grounder by Bengie Molina in the second inning, but said he was OK. The Padres roughed up Hill for 10 hits and seven runs in 4 2-3 innings. He struck out five and walked two. Benji Gil hit a solo homer off Hitchcock in the fifth, and San Diego's Carlos Hernandez homered off Ramon Ortiz leading off the sixth. Notes: Padres reliever Steve Montgomery was scheduled to have an MRI exam on his right shoulder late Friday afternoon. He's had tightness in the joint and had to leave Monday's game against Oakland. He was one of three pitchers acquired from Philadelphia for ace Andy Ashby. ... 1B Ryan Klesko said he felt discomfort in his throwing shoulder before the game and didn't play. He will be examined by a doctor on Saturday. ... Padres president Larry Lucchino and general manager Kevin Towers were scheduled to continue contract extension talks with Bochy. Bochy, scheduled to make $500,000 this year, is believed to be seeking a three-year deal worth $1 million a year. In five seasons, he's led the Padres to two division titles and one NL pennant.
